Camping by state
571 places to stay, each with its nearest town and where our information comes from.
Drive Trail Ridge Road between Estes Park and Grand Lake and you'll cross the Continental Divide on the highest paved through-road in the country, with tundra on both sides. Those two towns frame Rocky Mountain National Park, and in September the elk gather in Moraine Park and bugle at dusk, right by the campground.
Estes Park has the park's drive-in campgrounds. The Grand Lake side is mostly hike-in sites that need a permit. Further afield, Red Feather Lakes, Gunnison and Bayfield have Forest Service campgrounds, and out by Dinosaur the camps are on the Green and Yampa rivers, for float trips. Many high campgrounds don't open until June.

Boondocking Score
Coming soon: nomads will rate how easy it is to find a free, tolerated place to sleep here. A score shows once at least five people have reported.
Strongest badge first, then by nearest town. The badge says where our information comes from. A badge is not permission to stay overnight.
2,004 places on the Road Wild map, from trailheads to laundromats.
A listing is a lead, not a promise. These are places we know about, not places we have confirmed you can sleep tonight. Rules, closures, seasons and fees change, and forest roads and passes close for snow. Check signs and local rules before you commit to a night somewhere, and tell us when something is wrong.
