Camping by state
71 places to stay, each with its nearest town and where our information comes from.
Drive the Kancamagus Highway from Lincoln toward Bartlett in early October and the White Mountains are on fire with color. The Forest Service campgrounds along it, Jigger Johnson, Blackberry Crossing and Covered Bridge among them, sit right by the Swift River, where people swim on warm days.
A lot of New Hampshire's listings are backcountry tentsites in the White Mountains. Near Lincoln, Liberty Spring sits on the Appalachian Trail below Franconia Ridge, and Thirteen Falls is deep in the Pemigewasset Wilderness. Near Gorham, the Valley Way climbs toward the Presidentials. Bethlehem and Twin Mountain have drive-in campgrounds if you'd rather sleep near the car.

Boondocking Score
Coming soon: nomads will rate how easy it is to find a free, tolerated place to sleep here. A score shows once at least five people have reported.
Strongest badge first, then by nearest town. The badge says where our information comes from. A badge is not permission to stay overnight.
575 places on the Road Wild map, from trailheads to laundromats.
A listing is a lead, not a promise. These are places we know about, not places we have confirmed you can sleep tonight. Rules, closures, seasons and fees change, and forest roads and passes close for snow. Check signs and local rules before you commit to a night somewhere, and tell us when something is wrong.
