Camping by state
272 places to stay, each with its nearest town and where our information comes from.
The most Florida way to spend a night is on a chickee in the Everglades: a raised wooden platform with a roof, built over the water where there's no dry land to camp on. Out of Chokoloskee and the Flamingo side near Florida City, the backcountry sites are strung along the Wilderness Waterway, and you get to them by canoe or kayak with a permit. The stars over the mangroves are worth the paddle.
If you're driving, the Keys are the other draw. Islamorada, Duck Key and Marathon have RV parks right on the water, and they fill up fast in winter. Go between December and April. Summer brings heat, storms and mosquitoes that will change your plans for you.

Boondocking Score
Coming soon: nomads will rate how easy it is to find a free, tolerated place to sleep here. A score shows once at least five people have reported.
Strongest badge first, then by nearest town. The badge says where our information comes from. A badge is not permission to stay overnight.
1,211 places on the Road Wild map, from trailheads to laundromats.
A listing is a lead, not a promise. These are places we know about, not places we have confirmed you can sleep tonight. Rules, closures, seasons and fees change, and forest roads and passes close for snow. Check signs and local rules before you commit to a night somewhere, and tell us when something is wrong.
Maps, pins, photos, check-ins and reviews from nomads who stayed live in Road Wild. It's in private beta.
